This spring, the renowned Pinehurst Resort and Golf Course will host its inaugural Concours d’Elegance. The weekend of May 3-5, Pinehurst will showcase 118 rare and historic automobiles and motorcycles from around the world. The number of cars is specific and honors the years since the world-famous resort was established in 1895.
In addition to having some of its most prestigious vintage racers featured at the show (along with current models on site for test drives), Porsche has also signed on to sponsor the event. The German automaker is celebrating the 50th anniversary of its always-copied-but-never-duplicated 911. David Kurtz, vice president, area south, Porsche Cars North America, noted: “The 911 remains true to its original concept, even 50 years later,” he said. “This event provides us with an ideal environment to celebrate our heritage and to allow participants and attendees the opportunity to experience our current products at the same time.”
The Pinehurst Concours d’Elegance is also an opportunity for the resort to honor the United States’ bravest men and women stationed at Fort Bragg. Less than an hour away from Pinehurst, Fort Bragg currently houses more than 57,000 active military personnel and families. This unit is home to the famed 82nd Airborne Division and is also the primary training facility for the Army’s Special Operations Forces. The Concours weekend will also include the Iron Mike Rally, a 35-mile road rally to the Army base at Fort Bragg. This rally is named after the iconic “Iron Mike” statue, which represents all paratroopers, past, present and future.
